The mythologies behind naming Elounda Olea
In Cretan mythology, the origins of the goddess Athena are assigned to be in Crete. The Cretan Athena, who appears to be related to the Minoan “Snake Goddess”, was born near the river Triton and is said to have given the sacred olive tree as a gift to the Minoan people.
Τhe myth of the three sisters: Elais, Spermo and Oino (Oeno), whose names were connected with the three basic products of Greece (olive oil, wheat and wine), starts at Minoan Crete as well. Dimitra is a dominant figure in greek mythology, as the goddess of the harvest, who presided over grains, the fertility of the earth and the seasons.
Honoring Greek mythology and the Cretan tradition we decided to name our residences by the three siblings as well as the goddess Demetra.
